I’ve been life coaching for decades. I just didn’t know that’s what it was called!

For nearly 25 years I have been practising as a solicitor, working locally and internationally in a wide range of disciplines. Before that, I spent 20 years managing classical musicians, helping them to develop the best career that they could.

In both spheres I came to realise that my clients have flourished when they have a clear

understanding of how their goals fit their strengths and weaknesses, and that the best way to help them flourish is to help them achieve that clarity of understanding by gentle questioning and guidance.

From there, I encourage them to work out for themselves how to move forward from the position they are in, towards the best outcome they can devise for themselves.

Seeking a new pursuit in my own life, I chose life coaching.

I knew that I wanted to continue working for as long as possible. But I also knew that working exclusively in the world of law wasn’t where I saw myself indefinitely.

I therefore spent some time considering what I could do alongside my law practice. I realised that life coaching is something I’ve been doing without realising it through most of my adult life. As a solicitor, I’ve worked with people through times of immense change and challenge - from buying and selling property, to divorce, from redundancy to a new career. So I decided to formalise it, first with more reading around the subject of life coaching, and then with a qualification.

My most recent life coaching training was at the Oxford Department for Continuing Education. Since then I’ve coached a number of people, and in each case it has enabled them to flourish.

I am also qualified as a Collaborative Lawyer, and I have for some years attended regular meetings and training in that discipline which has the similar aim of enabling the practitioner to help clients achieve their own solutions to family problems.

Testimonials

"When I contacted RIchard, I was feeling as though I was at a crossroads with my career. Richard listened to me, asked the right questions, and was able to guide me to articulate what I hadn’t been able to before. His sensitivity and ability to listen even to what remained unsaid enabled a renewed understanding of myself and a confidence which helped me to find direction again. I now have a new job in which I am very happy!"

"Richard listens, really listens, and with careful questions he guides us gently to the heart of what’s troubling us. He encourages and warm-heartedly supports so that we can open ourselves up to what we really want for ourselves, see what’s lacking, stands in our way, to become the person we want to be. Richard is the safest place to get unstuck."
